Logistic and storage problem of hort/ agri produce


Even after producing good quality and commercial crops himachal is facing the great problem of logistics and storage. most of horticulture produce is coming in monsoon season and the condition of roads are also not well, lack of storage/ holding capacity further added woos to system. Pls share you valueable views so that the loss can be minimised.

  In Himachal Pradesh, various types of fruits and vegetables are grown. The majority of marketable surplus is off season vegetables, Stone and pome fruits. The share of primary sector in State GVA is approximately 14%. This sector provides the livelihood to majority of population appox. 60% and also provide employment opportunities. The marketing of fruits is done in traditional way in Himachal. Earlier big farmers collect the produce of themselves and nearby small framers and carry it to bigger markets like Delhi and Chandigarh for sale, where they have linkages with trader. There is no transparent method of price discovery. The farmers have to settle whatever price is afforded to them after deducting unregulated  transportation  and incidental charges. The marketing of apple is done through different channels. Some of them are direct selling of produce through the commission agent in market yards located in states and outside the state, direct procurement by corporates/ agribusiness companies, procurement by the processors and govt. procurement through market intervention scheme (MIS). The good quality produce is marketed through market yards and to agribusiness companies and substandard produce is sold to processors and govt agencies.
